Recognising that many contractors have the capacity
in-house for some of the more repetitive quantity surveying
functions and recognising also that comprehensive surveying
services are not appropriate for all types of contract D.G.
Jones and Partners offer a separate claims management service.
Claims Management Services Diagram
The key elements of the claims management service comprise:
1) Reviews of all the relevant tender and contract documents
to establish the rules for the resolution of disputes. Appraisals
of all relevant correspondence, instructions, notices and
submissions to establish the status of the dispute(s) in
question. Preliminary assessments of the validity of any
claim and reviews of alternative strategies which may be
employed in their resolution.
2) Examines in detail the events leading up to a dispute.
Investigates the cause of the dispute and interviews the
key personnel involved. Assembles as evidence all pertinent
documents and records and prepares illustrative analyses
of these records.

3) From evidence prepared identifies responsibility and
liability and determines specific provisions of contract
under which compensation will be sought.
4) Using construction programme(s) and progress and production
records establish delay/disruption/acceleration occasioned
by the issue under dispute. Prepares network diagrams to
illustrate the effect of the dispute
5) Calculates the total cost of delay/disruption acceleration
including additional site overheads, increased costs and
indirect overheads such as head office costs. Identifies
that proportion of such additional costs which are not recovered
out of related remeasurement or the valuation of related
change orders.
6) Recommends and agrees to strategy and method of the presentation
of a claim. Prepares claim submission - setting out cause,
effect, liability and damages for each claim issue and provides
copies of evidence and such analyses and cost calculations
as are necessary. Assists with claims presentation and negotiation
as required.
