Sorbonne Abu Dhabi is a state-of-the-art university, located on Al Reem Island. As a result of an agreement between the Sorbonne University in Paris and the Government of Abu Dhabi, Sorbonne Abu Dhabi was established in 2006 offering the best in international higher education. It attracts students from the UAE and around the world seeking education in the fields of sciences, humanities, languages, social sciences, law, management, and economics.
The Sorbonne Abu Dhabi moved into its purpose-built campus in December 2009, which comprises teaching, recreational and accommodation facilities, including a 700-seat auditorium, sports center, and cafeteria. The Central Plaza Courtyard crowned with a striking cupola that projects above the adjacent structures marks the heart of the new university campus with the administration, faculty, dining hall, library, and lecture wing buildings radiating out from this courtyard to form the main cluster. To the west of the main cluster is the male and female village including accommodation and a multi-use sports hall. With a capacity of 7,500 students, with an approximate built-up area of 93,000 m2.
